How lovely to see most of our children from KP at the disco this afternoon. They were all dressed to impress and they certainly had all the dance moves! The smiles from all the children were priceless. You made your teachers very happy to see your joy and enthusiasm dancing with your friends. (And we need to brush up on our dance moves now to keep up with you!) Please visit the 'Latest Photos' page of our website to see our Kinder and Stage 1 children in action! A big thanks also to our mums and dads who helped out at the disco, it was very much appreciated.
It was our second week of 'I Wonder Who Wednesday', so yesterday KP read through the clues provided by this week's mystery reader. There was a lot of excitement and guessing going on yesterday afternoon! Our second mystery reader, with reading cape on, read one of her favourite books 'Superworm' by Julia Donaldson to KP this morning. The children loved this story and are thoroughly enjoying their Wednesday mornings and being motivated by other adults showing a love of reading. Thanks so much to our mum who volunteered to be KP's mystery reader today. There was a very proud student in KP today! Here is another online game KP are enjoying in group time to practise their sight words. It's called 'Dinosaur Eggs' and the great thing is you can choose different word lists to practise and extend yourself. Have a play at home and see if you can hatch all the dinosaur eggs!
We held our 'Block Olympics' today in maths today to practise addition and also revisit an important concept when comparing lengths. We worked with a partner and took turns to roll the dice. We could only add the number of blocks that we rolled on the dice. We had three minutes to see who could make the longest length of blocks. We had a practise run and then it was time for the main event! The racing online timer was set for 3 minutes and we were off! We had to work as a team and make sure we were adding the correct numbers of blocks each roll. So a lot of luck was involved depending on what number we rolled. Before we knew it the timer was ringing. We remembered from last term that to compare the lengths of our block lines we had to align them all at one end. Because we used blocks we could also count the number of blocks in each line to confirm. The winner was declared, but the result didn't matter, we shook our partner's hand and we look forward to our next event! This is one of the online activities KP are enjoying in L3 group time this term. It's called 'Writing Runway' and it helps us practise sentence structures and our sight words. Children wanted it on the blog to play with you at home. Parents you will have to help by typing in a sentence, then clever KP children will put the words in order to complete the sentence. The plane will take off if they are correct! Have fun!
KP loved reading 'The Rainbow Fish' by Marcus Pfister today. Please enjoy it again at home on Storyline Online.
KP made their own beautiful rainbow fish today using silver paint for the sparkling, shiny, silver scales. They also made some starfish, a character in the story that the rainbow fish turned to for help.
During the the last week of last term KP enjoyed an environment lesson with Ms Lewis and their buddies from 3C. The children explored compost in our kitchen garden and looked for beneficial creepy crawlies. They also conducted a waste audit and learnt about which bin is for which type of waste and discussed the importance of reusing, recycling and reducing packaging. KP finished the session by eating juicy oranges grown at school in the kitchen garden. Delicious! This morning KP and our other Kindergarten classes at HPS began a special Term 3 & 4 program. It's called ‘I Wonder Who Wednesday’ and it's where parents, grandparents, relatives or other special people surprise our Kinder children by being a `Mystery Reader’ in their classroom on Wednesday mornings. Our mystery readers have to answer some questions to provide ‘clues’ about their identity, and these clues were revealed to KP children yesterday. As you can imagine there was a lot of excitement and guessing going on. Our first mystery reader enthralled KP today reading one of her favourite books 'The Eagle Who Was Afraid of Flying'. KP enjoyed the beautiful story in this pop up book and loved being able to lift the envelope flaps to reveal more elements of the story. Thanks so much to one of our mums who volunteered to be KP's first mystery reader. There was a very proud student in KP today! KP enjoyed lots of wonderful things in the holidays and it was quite hard for them to choose their favourite holiday activity. However, they had to pick just one to complete our graphing activity in maths today.
