We also investigated the poppy as a symbol of remembrance; we looked at photos of poppy fields and we also looked at some paintings of poppies by Claude Monet. Inspired by what they saw, KP painted their own poppy fields in the style of Monet, dabbing their red paint on to create wonderful textures on their green crayon background.

Another ANZAC story you may enjoy at home over the school holidays is 'ANZAC Ted' by Angela Landsberry. It can be viewed in the YouTube below.
‘They’d see a hero, plain as day
Who sits upon my bed. A hero, who saved me and you. His name … is Anzac Ted.'
A special mention to Marcus who was moved and inspired by our talk about ANZAC Day at school and drew some impressive ANZAC Day images at home, complete with beautiful hearts.

To continue our work in maths on 'position' KP played some barrier games. Partners took turns to give instructions where to place certain items on a picture. The child giving the instructions also had to place their items on their picture to match the instruction they gave. We used a big book as a barrier so children could only rely on the verbal instructions given e.g. the name of the item and then the position word - on, next to, under, above. They then took the barrier away to see if their pictures matched and swapped roles. Lots of wonderful talking, listening, explaining, laughing and the realisation we may not always explain things as well as we think we have! Lots of fun too!
No . . . KP are not selling real estate! We have been studying the concept of 'position' in maths this term. Using ourselves, Grug and our Grug puppets we consolidated what we have been talking about and exploring in class. Please watch us in action below.
