This 2D 'Shapes Song' has been our morning song this week. KP love it! Turn the sound right up and sing along at home!

Here are a couple of counting games KP really enjoyed playing this week on the Smartboard. Please click on the images below to play them at home.
Last week in developmental play KP started making shape robots with the other Kinder classes and we finished them off this week. We made our shape robots from squares and rectangles. We think they look great! Here's the song Mrs Badham taught us!
Continuing our work on length this week KP read the book 'Chrysanthemum' by Kevin Henkes. We enjoyed the story very much, but we were also amazed to discover how long her name is. Chrysanthemum has 13 letters in her name - half the number of letters in the alphabet! We wondered who had the shortest name in our class and who had the longest. We decided we could count the letters, but we also thought we could measure the length of our names by comparing them visually - lined up against each other. To compare fairly and accurately we cut and pasted same sized letters into same sized grids (so no gaps or overlaps). We also made sure we aligned the names at one end on the floor. We discovered Mia and Ben have the shortest names, and Harriet and Addison have the longest.
Here is the story 'Chrysanthemum' below to enjoy again at home.
KP adored the book 'The Kissing Hand' by Audrey Penn this week and we made our own special kissing hands.
We used water colour paints to decorate our hands and chose a coloured heart to paste in the centre. Our hands were made with love.
Here is the story being read by the author herself, for you to enjoy again at home.
One of KP's morning activities is rhyme time! We have been revisiting favourite nursery rhymes, reading rhyming stories, being rhyme detectives and we make some silly soup that can only contain rhyming words. This is the silly soup song we sing. Can you work out what rhyming words were needed for this batch of silly soup below? Can you think of any other words we could have added to our soup?
KP love their maths work each day and here are some photos of them rotating through different activities in group time.
KP thoroughly enjoyed the book 'Mouse Shapes' by Ellen Stoll Walsh. It's about three clever mice who find a funny way to trick a sneaky cat using different shapes. We created our own 'big' mice using circles, a triangle and some children used a square. We think we'd be able to trick the cat too with our fabulous 2D shape work!
Please enjoy the book ''Mouse Shapes' at home. What was your favourite part?
KP shared their wonderful personal artefacts this afternoon. They spoke about their artefact and why it was so special to them and their family. We loved hearing all the family stories behind the items they chose to share with everyone today. A big thank you to our families for helping and supporting the children with this special history project. This week in maths KP started investigating length. We've been using words such as long, short, tall, longer, shorter, taller, shortest, longest, tallest and the same as. We were given a paddle pop stick and we went searching around our classroom for items we thought were shorter or longer than our stick. We gathered up our items and put them on our tables. We learnt that to compare the lengths of different items accurately we have to line them up at one end. We even had a go at ordering our items from shortest to longest and we did a really good job! We thought we'd see if we could then line up ourselves in order of our heights, from shortest to tallest. There was lots of talking, moving around and swapping until we thought we had it just right! And no cheating was allowed by standing on chairs, we all had to line up on the floor to make it fair and accurate. We also enjoyed watching 'How Big is the Magic Bus?' with Flynn and Dodley. Here is the link below if you would like to watch it again at home. Do you think the bus was magic?
