From detailed research today we can safely assume a lot of chocolate was consumed by KP children over the Easter long weekend! We incorporated our love of Easter eggs into our maths data work today. We used a graph to demonstrate what our favourite type of Easter egg was. We wrote our names on an 'egg' and then arranged them in a column. We could easily see how many children liked each type of Easter egg. As part of our maths data work we also answer a yes/no question every morning by moving our names in a column on the whiteboard to collect information about ourselves and what we've been up to!
KP looked so gorgeous today in their Easter hats. Thank you parents for your artistic and creative assistance! They were very excited to parade their creations today in front of all the mums, dads, grandparents and friends. We had a photo taken before the parade and they can be seen below. For all the photos of the actual parade and the Easter artworks in the library, please visit the 'Latest Photos' page on our school website. There are heaps of photos! Thanks again for donating all the eggs for our Easter raffle. We hope everyone has a lovely Easter break.
Before we take part in our Easter Hat Parade tomorrow, KP would like to send you a 'Happy Easter' message.
KP Wish You A Happy Easter from Sue Dowling on Vimeo. KP were very clever making Easter chicks out of yellow cardboard, orange paper, pegs and some googly eyes! We added five baby chicks and innovated on a favourite song today. We didn't have 'five little ducks who went out one day', but our five little chicks who 'went over the hill and far away'. We had fun singing and acting out our version of the song with our mother chick cheeping and our baby chicks finally coming back! We hope KP sing our song for you at home together with their 'chick' family.
Not only did KP celebrate Harmony Day yesterday, but we also celebrated the Very Hungry Caterpillar's birthday. It's 47th birthday was on Sunday the 20th of March! KP couldn't let this birthday go past without a special celebration. The slideshow below captures the enjoyment we had revisiting this very special story.
Did you enjoy the retelling of this story at home by the wonderful KP students with their puppets and props?
Here is Eric Carle, the author, reading his story for you to enjoy at home.
Today all of Kindergarten celebrated Harmony Day in our afternoon session. We enjoyed the book 'Whoever You Are' by Mem Fox and had a talk about how we can help make everyone feel that they belong. No matter what colour our skin is, what language we speak, what clothes we wear, we are all the same on the inside. To demonstrate how we are all connected we went back to our classrooms to decorate our paper dolls. It was a very special day and our paper dolls will be used in a 'Harmony Day' display in the school hall. Today we used the 'Feltboard' app on the iPads to create a beautiful Easter picture. This is the first time we have used this app and we completed the task independently while Mrs Dowling was working with children in the Engine Room. We really enjoyed this activity and we hope to make some other pictures very soon. Our activities in L3 time this morning had a definite Easter feel to them. Finding words in Easter eggs, making sentences about bilbies, tracing letters in Easter pictures and creating our own beautiful Easter scenes on the iPads.
As part of our Easter celebrations this week, KP have been learning about Australia's very own bilby. We have read stories and information books to learn about this amazing, but sadly endangered animal. We also watched videos of bilbies in action and looked carefully at photos. We painted our very own Easter Bilbies with their pink ears and noses, grey hair and their black and white tails. We dabbed the paint on very carefully and tried to create a hairy/furry texture.
We also had lots of fun using the 'Chatterpix' iPad app. We hope you enjoy our Easter messages below.
